Move to Amend & Dayton Metro Library's Issue 34

What is Move to Amend?
Move to Amend is a national movement advocating for the We the People Amendment, a proposed 28th Amendment to the Constitution. The amendment aims to revoke corporate personhood and ensure that money is not speech, prioritizing human rights over corporate interests in American democracy.

What the Amendment Does:
• Prevents corporations from claiming rights meant for people, such as search and seizure protections or property rights that obstruct public initiatives.
• Limits the influence of corporate money in politics, restoring power to individuals and communities.

With growing local support—including 1,400 Daytonians and half a million supporters nationwide—the movement is gaining traction across Ohio and beyond.

Get Involved:
• Sign the petition at movetoamend.org/motion.
• Follow Move to Amend on Facebook for updates.
• Join our efforts to pass a Montgomery County resolution by January 2025, with opportunities for education and outreach. Volunteers are always welcome!

Issue 34: A Victory for Dayton Libraries
Gem City DSA proudly endorsed Dayton’s 2024 Issue 34 and actively worked to ensure its passage. Our members volunteered as canvassers, phone bankers, and advocates, contributing to the successful campaign. The levy passed with 53% of the vote, securing essential funding for the Dayton Metro Library system.

Why This Matters:
• The levy, lasting five years and costing just 67 cents per week per $100,000 of appraised property value, will sustain vital library programs, technology, books, materials, and staff.
• By avoiding significant cuts, the library can continue to serve as a cornerstone of education, technology access, and community connection in Dayton.

This victory demonstrates the power of collective action and a shared commitment to investing in public resources for a stronger future.

Gem City DSA remains dedicated to advocating for people-centered policies, supporting grassroots movements, and strengthening public services. Join us as we continue to work for a more equitable Dayton!

Gem City DSA is proud to champion grassroots democracy and equity through our endorsement of the Move to Amend initiative and our active support of Dayton’s 2024 Issue 34. We are especially excited to celebrate Issue 34’s victory at the ballot box, passing with 53% of the vote on November 5, 2024.
